WHO WE ARE

Madison Area Parent Support: Guiding parents along their journey through parenthood

Since 2016, MAPS has passionately and effectively supported families in the greater Madison, WI area while working to decrease the stigma and increase the knowledge surrounding perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) such as postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety.

Madison Area Parent Support Inc. {MAPS} began when one mom recognized the discrepancy between the support parents receive during pregnancy and the support received throughout the rest of parenthood. Over the years it quickly grew into the nonprofit organization it is today, providing direct support to parents during the postpartum period and beyond, and providing guidance and resources to those suffering from perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) so they can get better.

MAPS understands that parenthood is a huge transition in a person's life. We believe that support should increase - exponentially! - once baby arrives. Many of the parents involved with MAPS have personally experienced the benefits of peer support and quality referrals - particularly in relation to PMADs. Therefore, we prioritize improving this type of support in our area. Our vision is for parents to feel prepared for parenthood, for those with PMADs to receive the professional care and support they need, and for all parents to be aware of the resources available to them in their area.

We believe that the best way to support parents is through a spirit of collaboration. This is why MAPS partners with various professionals, non-profits, businesses, and individuals to ensure that families in our area are receiving the best support possible.

MAPS is 100% volunteer run. The money raised by MAPS goes directly back into our organization to benefit our programs including:

  • parent support groups

  • MAPS’ annual women’s retreat

  • online support for PMAD survivors and sufferers

  • resources for parents and providers

  • specialized trainings for professionals focusing on topics such as PMADS, loss, and minority mental health.

MAPS began in 2016 as Madison Postpartum Collective, was renamed to Madison Area Parent Support in 2018, and received 501(c)(3) status in August 2018.
